Neutral Bedrooms

One of the things I love to do is rearrange my house which I know many of you do the same. You get that itch to move furniture and generally mix everything up. My husband says that I stand at one end of the room with my finger on my chin and get that glazed look and Stephen says to me, Oh no! Here we go again! This is my way of being creative so when a friend of mine mentioned that she wanted to redo her bedroom, I was Johnny on the spot! I started asking her what she loves and I was in heaven because she loves the neutrals as much as myself. Here are a few inspiration rooms I pulled.

I love the first image with the contrast of the floors to the bedding and of course the protrait is amazing. I also love the contempory feel of the second image and the peacefulness of the room but I am absolutely mad about the last image with the imagination of the designer. The weekend is finally here and my friends Eileen and Deanne head up to the Carmel on Friday. It was great catching up on the drive and we were excited to have a girlfriend's weekend. We arrived at my friend Anna's home and this is first thing we saw as we walked to the guest house. Isn't this just picture perfect!

We entered the Guest House to this charming room. I felt like Goldilocks and the Three Bears. It was darling and ohhh... so cozy. Eileen, Deanne and I shared a bottle of great wine and then headed out to dinner to Cafe Rustica. It was fabulous!

Thanksgiving with the Watkins

Thanksgiving with the Watkins is all about traditions. About three years ago, my daughter, Devon, introduced us to a new tradition, Turkey Bowling. It is a hoot! First, we have to prepare the turkey. Wrap tightly in duct tape to handle the skidding across blacktop. Let me tell you that skidding across blacktop tenderizes the meat for future roasting.

My sister found these pins at an old bowling alley that was being torn down and her husband, Jack, refinished them and gave them to us for Christmas last year.

Now it is dinner time. Every year, I promise myself that I am going to be creative before each season. Well, I am quite proud of myself because I pulled off this handmade napkin rings. Thank you Matthew Mead!

After putting on a Remnants show, Stephen and I love to get away just to unwind. Our favorite place to go is Big Sur so off we went on Friday. This was our little home for the weekend. We got settled in and then we walked to the River Inn where we love to sit by the river and have a drink. It was beautiful and I could just feel my whole being relax.

The next day we hiked and then stopped for a bite to eat at Nepenthes. The view is so spectacular!

Julia Pieffer Falls

One of the things about my husband that is so special is that he writes down on a calendar anything that was special in our friends and family that has happened. Every day he looks at his calendar and reads what happened that day and he will call that person and say "I just want to let you know that 5 years ago this happened...... and I am so happy for you!" Well this weekend on Stephen's calendar, he wrote proposed to Judy at Santa Margarita Lake 23 years ago. I am so happy that I said YES!

Remnants of the Past

It has taken me a whole week to recover but what a weekend it was. My anticipation of what you would think of the new venue, would people come, would they love it was dispelled when I walked out the doors to see the line of people wrapped around the building all happy with smiles on their faces. I started a new tradition this Fall Show. I wanted something special to be handed down the line not only to let people know where the end of the line was but to have something to put on to have their pictures taken in. About four years ago when my Mother passed away a dear friend brought me a crown made by a special artist. Eileen knew that I loved this crown so she brought it. It was made out of chicken wire and was rustic and elegant all at one time. Zipping forward to now, I came across a box of my Mother's things and in it were many costume jewelry pieces, ribbon, gold birds and pieces that my Mother couldn't throw away. I contacted a friend, Stephani, to see if she could capture my vision of this crown. Stephani captured it completely! I watched this crown get passed down the line and many women having their pictures taken in it. This picture in my mind is priceless. There were many tears for me this day.

The fun doesn't end. When the bell was rung, people were so excited to see what these amazing vendors had created for them. They were not disappointed. I have to tell you that I have the BEST vendors. They out did themselves in their creation of their booths, the treasures they had collected and their displays. It was definitely jaw dropping. I could feel the energy. It was so tangible. People shopped and chatted and shared their stories with each other. Then came my special guest for Saturday, Steve and Brooke Giannetti. If you haven't purchased their book, it is definitely one for your bookshelf. It is filled with everything I love.

On Sunday, we opened the doors again to a line. My special guest on Sunday was Susan Branch. The women were so excited that she was coming and the line started to form. She graciously signed books, gave hugs and had her picture taken. Isn't this one darling with Susan and these two little girls. They were so patient waiting in line with their Mothers!

Poetic Pumpkins

I've known Carol for years and she has been a part of Remnants since the beginning. My first show was in October 2007 and Carol set up a booth selling engraved pumpkins. They were a hit! Consequently, Carol has to always be a part of the show because I receive hundreds of emails every Fall asking if Carol of Poetic Pumpkins will be there plus I could not imagine not having Carol's sweet presence at the show. You won't be able to miss Carol because there will be a bevy of women fighting to get there engraved pumpkin.

I've followed Debi of Ormolulu for a couple of years now through my daily jaunts through blog world. When I had the opportunity to attend The Farm Chicks show in Spokane this past June, I was so excited that I was going to be able to meet Debi and see her fabulous booth. I remember walking up to her booth and having my heart beating in my chest with glee. Where do I start....where do I look...! It was truly amazing. Now, I had to muster up the courage to ask her if she would consider coming to California and being a vendor at Remnants. Cleared my throat and I asked her. Debi was so excited and gracious but told me that she would have to let me know. I started praying and if it was meant to be, Debi and Jim would come. I was beside myself with joy when she said yes!

Blue Canoe Reloaded

The talent of the vendors that present at Remnants never ceases to take my breath away. Tim and Lisa of Blue Canoe Reloaded are no exception. I've known Tim and Lisa for many years and they are one of those couples that their talent takes my breath away. So you could imagine my delight when they accepted my invitation to be a part of Remnants. Would I absolutely adore about Tim is is boyish enthusiasm for what he loves to do and Lisa with her calmness as she creates the incredible finds that you will find in their booth. On top of all of this talent, they are one of the kindness and gracious couples you will ever meet.

One of the things that I am excited about for this Fall show is that I will be having a variety of food vendors. We have from gourmet, Asian, Italian deli, organic to sweet. The first one in the line up is Porter's Truck.

This is a wonderful new place called The Pastry Cutter. My grandmother was from England and made the BEST scones but I have to tell you that Julia's scones are awesome from the sweet to the savory.

Pammy's Attic

I've known Pammy for many years. I would watch her in church when she would sing with her husband, Dennis. First, an amazing voice but what I remember most was her style. At that time, keep in mind this was 20 years ago, Pammy wore a long jacket in neutrals, jeans, straight hair and boots. I never knew until about five years ago that her creativeness extended to mixed media art but more recently in her jewelry. Her partner in crime, Kriste, my workout buddy, work together to make everything that Pammy creates happen. Pammy and Kriste have a online store called Pammy's Attic that you will love. Pam only participates in a couple of shows, Farm Chicks and Remnants and I am honored that she comes all the way from Idaho.

I met Jenny and Melissa of JunkGirls through a mutual friend. Nothing prepared me for the talent that just emanates from these women. I've watched Jenny making fabulous tables and art pieces but growing to making the most incredible lighting that I have ever seen. Melissa known for her "bling" comes up with new and interesting ideas constantly that displays her talent. I met Sandy a few years ago when she was part owner of the store The Tattered House. I invited the girls to do the show and they were a hit. Life changes and presents itself in many courses and Sandy has taken the road to open her own business, The Olive and Rose. Sandy has an incredible talent in styling and is currently styling weddings, stores and now her booth at Remnants. She loves all things vintage but more importantly, Sandy loves people. You cannot meet Sandy and just not feel the need to give her a big hug. Sandy is warm, kind and full of passion for what she loves.

I've known Bonnie of Birds of a Feather for as long as I have been in this business. Whenever, my hubbie and I would head up to Cambria, her store was a must to visit. I could spend hours in there! Every little nook had something that would entice you to linger and touch. Bonnie is incredible hunter and has a way of gathering her treasures together in a way that you JUST have to have it! Bonnie no longer has her store but she has a good reason so that she can spend more time with her grandkids and bring US all her goodies to the shows that she participates in. I do not know if I even want to share this local favorite of our little town but it is too delicious of a secret not to tell. We have been going to Zorro's for over 20 years now. There is a reason that this little place nestled in a little corner of Shell Beach is always packed and it not the view. Zorros serves up some of the best Mexican Food that I have eaten. It is always fresh and wonderful. If you have a craving, Zorros has to be on your place to visit while you are in town.

I met Kymberley through the wonderful world of blogging. It took a little bit of convincing to have her commit to the show but it did not take long before her booth was the darling of the show. Kymberley has an amazing talent of display besides the fact that you are dying to have every item in it. Kymberley has a real love for old German grain sacks and creates not only pillows out of them but is always coming up with creative ideas to use them. With her ability to mix the fabrics with incredible antiques, I just never want to leave. I love that her whole family is involved. Sometimes it can be a stressful time setting up your booth because you want everything to be perfect but Kymberely has an ace in her hand....her husband Geoff. There are so many out of the way little shops to visit while you are here on the Central Coast and Anthology owned by Connie is one of them. This is a darling shop in the little town of Templeton. I've known Connie for years and used to shop in her little store in San Luis Obispo 15 years ago. I loved her clothes but what intrigued me more was her vintage corner. I could spend hours there. Connie has moved to North County but still has amazing taste and her vintage corner is much larger. Yeah! Be sure to put this on your list for your time her on the Central Coast.

Mary Lou from Cottage Accents is always on the go. She travels from here to there and everywhere. Mary Lou makes many trips to Europe and brings home wonderful country French antiques. She has a very tasteful eye in regards to Country French. In decorating magazines, you will see Country French and it can be very over done. Not with Mary Lou. She has a wonderful way of incorporating the colors and tastes of Country French but in a relaxed and uncluttered way. Mary Lou and her husband have been with me nearly 3 years now and I cannot imagine not having her cheerful personality at the show. You will love her booth and also love Mary Lou.

Chateau et Jardin

I actually met Kathee of Chateau et Jardin, through Brooke Giannetti's blog. I thought that Kathee had a unique eye for finding great stuff. I started hearing from other vendors that she indeed had wonderful items and that she would fit in perfectly with Remnants. I wrote Kathee to see if she would like to participate and so Chateau et Jardin debuted Spring of 2010. I cannot imagine not having Kathee and her family at the show. She brings such a positive outlook, kindness, plus amazing things to the show and I would have a mutiny on my hands from the other vendors if she ever left; so you cannot leave EVER Kathee.

I met Sandi from The Cottage about 10 years ago. We would run into each other during our early morning trips to flea markets while both of us were buying for our stores. I met William and his wife, Katie, of William's Antiks, at a flea market in Southern California about 10 years ago. I was always intrigued by his booth from the artwork, maps, enamelware, linens and club chairs that William finds during his travels in France. I invited William to Remnants about 3 years ago and was impressed not only by his treasures but more importantly by the type of person he is. Everyone is in a hectic mood when unloading and preparing their spaces for the following day. I look over and there is William helping a vendor move boxes, furniture and generally just helping everyone. I thought, this is genuinely a special man. When he was done, he quietly went back to his booth and created his magic. With his working schedule, shows and young family, William has not been a part of Remnants shows for a couple of years but I am happy to say, he is back! You will love his mix of French Urban, bistro, and modernism.

The Prized Pig

This will be the first time that Michael and Patty of The Prized Pig will be showing at Remnants. I have not met Michael or Patty yet but I sure know their style. I would be going through my little blog world and photos of these incredible eclectic booths in Markets would show up. When I have time, one of the things I love to do is go to antique malls small and large. I work just outside of The Village of Arroyo Grande and there are several stores I like to poke around in and one being, Branch Street Antiques. As true junkers know, you have to frequent these stores because the merchandise changes daily. Branch Street Antiques has a huge collection of antique jewelry which is one of my loves. While you are in town, take a stroll down the streets of The Village of Arroyo Grande and stop in at this gem of a store.

I had not met Nancy and George formally but believe me, I knew where their booth was at the flea markets. You will have to jockey for position in front of a table and not move. They have trays and trays of masses of one of a kind objects. It is overwhelming but inspiring at the same time. It is a booth that inspires you to stay and run your fingers through the boxes to get a sense of what you want to create. It is truly amazing. I met up with Nancy and George at Farm Chicks this past June and of course, their booth was incredible. I asked (begged) them again to be a part of the show. They said YES!!! I am so excited for you to see the treasures of Fun Junk.

Cayucos Antique Street Faire

When I used to have my store, I would haunt all the local shops, swap meets and the Cayucos Antique Street Fair. The little street fair is held twice a year and I try not to miss it. You never know what you will find there. It is held in the darling town of Cayucos off Hwy. 1 on your way up the coast north of San Luis Obispo. Their next event is October 16th so be sure to mark your calendars for a day of antiquing and enjoying the Central Coast.

Where do I start with Jennifer??? Jennifer makes me laugh, has incredible taste, makes me laugh, awesome with the customer, makes me laugh, very supportive and did I mention she makes me laugh? I've know Jennifer for at least ten years when she had a store down in Camarillo. She designed the most amazing lampshades but that is not all. You would walk into her warehouse and be overwhelmed with the amount of real European antiques. Jennifer always has a story to tell so needless to say, shopping at Jennifer's place was a wonderful, funny and all day experience. I know that you will love Jennifer as much as I do!

When I attended the show Farm Chicks this past June, my goal was to find some amazing vendors. The show was a blast and I did find four amazing vendors and one of them was Joy of Antie's Joy. You couldn't walk past her booth without feeling the contagious joy flowing from this booth. Joy and her cute husband are traveling down from the Pacific Northwest in "Dumbo" their motor home to San Luis Obispo to be a part of the Remnants show. I am so excited! Joy has so much fun collecting and bringing her style to all of the shows that she participates in and she is a part of some pretty big shows like Barn House, Retreat, and Farm Chicks to name a few. I know that you will love Joy (as much as her stuff) as I do.

I have been an admirer of Susan Branch for about 10 years. I love her books and and how she writes straight from the heart. I first met Susan when she walked into my store one afternoon and I thought... this woman looks very familiar. And then it hit me! Susan Branch was standing in front of me. We have become friends over the years and when I sold my store four years ago, Susan invited me to work for her. It is such a fun job and she is a dream to work for. The stories this woman can tell! Susan keeps me in stitches when she gets on a roll of telling stories. When I decided that I wanted to make Sunday, October 9th, Girlfriend's Day, what better person to have there than Susan Branch. Susan will be signing her famous book Girlfriend's Forever from 12:30pm to 1:00pm. Come celebrate a perfect Girlfriend's Day with Susan Branch!

Madonna Inn

One of things that my family loves to do at Christmas time, is go to Madonna Inn and look at all of the Christmas decorations and on Easter make the pilmigrage at 5:30 am with flash light in hand and hike up Madonna Mountain for Easter Service. When I knew that I had to change the location of Remnants, the Alex Madonna Expo Center located on the Madonna Inn property was perfect. It felt familiar and steeped in my family traditions. You cannot miss it as you travel north or south on 101 Freeway. The style of Madonna Inn has been described as Swiss Chalet meets Disneyland. What is fun is there are no numbers for rooms but each room has been given a name and each room is decorated differently. Madonna Inn is a hit with locals and many celebrities have visited the Inn. When you come to shop at Remnants, you have to stop into the Inn and stroll around. It is amazing and while you are there you must make a stop in their coffee shop and have their Toffee Crunch Cake. It is one of my favorites and I always want a piece for my birthday. I remember running through some of my favorite blogs and clicking the links of their favorite blogs to follow and I noticed that the Velvet and Linen blog was mentioned frequently. I clicked on the link and I was immediately transported through the world I love of antiques, beautiful fabrics, design, flea markets and that touch of industrial. I started making comments on Brooke's blog of things that she was writing about that resonated with me. Brooke and I are kindred spirits. We both share a love of our families, our marriages and of course the thrill of the hunt through flea markets. Reading through Brooke's posts, I love reading about her admiration for the talents of her husband, Steve. Steve is one most sought after architects in California. I love his sense of classic with his spin of introducing the modern elements into his designs. Together, I think that they are an amazing team. When I read that they had published their first book, Patina Style, I thought... do you think they would come to Remnants to do a book signing? I finally gathered up the courage to write Brooke and she said YES! I am so excited to have Brooke and Steve at our Fall Remnants Show. I like for you to meet Sandi of Rust to Rhinestones. I've known Sandi for a few years and then she moved and we lost touch. One day, a friend of mine was talking about this woman that she thought was so incredibly talented and said that she would be perfect for the show. She kept saying Sandi and then it clicked! I told her that I have wanted her to be a part of the show for years and I called her. As you can tell, Sandi is a true junker but what is most amazing is how she merchandises her finds. I do not get downtown in San Luis Obispo very often but I had errands to run. Walking down one of the side streets, I walked by a store window and stopped. I thought .... when did this store opened. I looked up and saw that it was called Ontology and decided to take a peak. I was greeted by the store owner, Michael, immediately. I love when that happens! I wandered around and this store is not your typical vintage store. It is a treasure hunt and a store that you need to frequent because you will not know if you missed a fabulous find. On my birthday one year, my girlfriend gave me a gift certificate to her friend's salon in San Luis Obispo. If you know me, it will take forever for me to use a gift like this because I do not take the time to pamper myself. Every time, I would see this friend, she would ask me if I had gone to see Patricia. So, finally, one evening I dragged myself from just relaxing at home and to this skin seminar. It was the most informative and fun evening I have had in a long time. I went ahead and booked myself for a facial. Well... now I am hooked! Patricia owns A French Touch Salon in San Luis Obispo. Patricia was taught the secrets of how French women look so beautiful by her mother at a very famous French day spa in Northern California called Yvette's. Debi and her husband, Mark, would come to the coast for a little getaway and would always stop by. When I sold my store, I lost touch with them. I would like to introduce you to Susan of Lux of Love. Susan and I go way back when our children were in grade school. She was new to the neighborhood, our girls were the same age and we had a common bond together. Garage Sales! We would pack up the girls, coffee and off we would go. After a while, we couldn't fit all of our finds in our garages so we opened a little shop called Well...La de Da! Our shop was a mere 150 square feet and we would literally have to empty it every morning in order to open our doors. That actually worked very well. Who could resist all these treasures lining the parking lot. We caught the attention of Romantic Homes about 14 years ago and we were off and running. Our lives changed over time and Susan moved to Colorado and opened an amazing store called Lux of Loveland. But her heart was here on the Central Coast so she and her hubbie, David, moved back but she still had a garage full of treasures. And guess what? Susan will be debuting at Remnants for the first time.

When I first moved to the San Luis Obispo area, I was asked to meet a friend and she suggested the restaurant at the Apple Farm Inn . My jaw literally dropped when I pulled up and parked. The gardens took my breath away. I could have walked around for hours just soaking up the pure beauty of them. Then, I started walking around the property. It is beautiful! It doesn't stop there, either. The hospitality is top notch and the rooms are beautifully appointed. Apple Farm definitely takes their customer service very seriously and it is truly evident. Historic Village of Arroyo Grande

One of things I really enjoy is cooking. I was at an estate sale in Carmel one time and came across a whole set of All Clad Cookware for $100! It was brand new and that started me on the way of having wonderful cookware and great ingredients for cooking. I work just outside of the Village of Arroyo Grande and stopped by this little store called Verena's Go Gourmet. Of course, I had to stop. This is a charming little kitchen shop filled with best cookware, teas from around the world and my new favorite thing that I am obsessed with, aged balsamic vinegar and olive oil. Verena has a tasting bar and I bellied right up to that bar. I was in heaven! Of course, I left with my 25 year old aged balsamic vinegar and I was a happy girl. Make it one of your stops while you are here for the show.

If you have been following my blog posts before a show, then you have read how Sidney and Sandy set up for the show. If not here is a brief summary...they have my son, Ryan reserved to help them unload or should I say Ryan unloads and they take off looking at every one's booth picking up a treasure or two on the way. They know everything about each booth and what they have and then they start on setting up their booth. In a blink of an eye!!! They are all set up and with big smiles they say in unison, "See you in the morning!" and they head back home. Mind you all of us are there for 8 to 10 hours setting up and Sidney and Sandy are done in 2 to 3 hours. They have the best treasures from old oils, iron, primitive and mixed together in a beautiful display and they made it looks so effortless. I want to be them when I grow up! I have been friends with the two of them for nearly 15 years and we always get a giggle when they do the show. If you want to see what they bring, you better head over to their booth quickly because they literally only have a small box to pack up at the end of the day.

I kept hearing from vendors from all over about this woman that makes amazing bags and recovered furniture pieces out of vintage needlepoint and navajo rugs. I filed it away in my brain. A received a call from one of my vendors participating in the show that she was going to have to cancel because they were moving that weekend and next thing I know, I receive an email from Stephanie, Totem Salvaged. I looked at her website and was immediately intrigued. What talent! Stephanie loves finding abandoned objects like old horse reins to use as handles for a purse or for a back pack. While in San Luis Obispo, you must go and wander through Brooks Woodcraft. It is not your typical store. This is a family business run by brothers, Chad and Lyle. My husband, Stephen, went to school with these men and the stories he could tell. But anyway...the store is filled with handmade and finished wood furnishings mixed in with antiques. I do not think there has EVER been a time that I have been at a flea market, garage sale or estate sale that one of them is not there. Avila Barn

Avila Barn has been a part of my family's holiday traditions. Every October, since the kids were little, we gather everyone up in the car and head to Avila Barn. Driving up is always such a visual treat with the fields full of pumpkins, fresh produce filling and bins and the best part... the smell of fresh pumpkin pie! We all pile into the wagon for the hayride to the fields and off we run to find the perfect pumpkin. After going back and forth and deciding on which pumpkin is the best, we head off to the maze made out of hay. This is where my husband,

(also a little kid) and kids have a blast running in and out of the maze. I think that all the other little kids are always amazed that this BIG kid is having just as much fun as they are. While you are here, you must put this darling little farm in Avila on your list to visit and who knows, it might also become your tradition.

They would stop by the store with bins full of fabulous nightshirts, shams and pillows. When I started Remnants of the Past, they took a risk and joined me in this venture and have been a part of the show since the beginning. The customers LOVED them! Last year, Dani and Eric ventured out and opened a store called Patine in La Selva Beach, California. It is full to the brim with incredible style.

I met Kathryn of Burlap and Boxwood at Farm Chicks this past June. This was a booth that I could spend hours in. If you don't take your time in Kathryn's booth, you will miss out. I bought this amazing German pan that is 24" across with a hook that I am going to use as a chalkboard in my kitchen. I can hardly wait! Nancy from Antiques from Memory Lane has been a part of Remnants since the beginning. I originally met Nancy and her husband Don at a little antique store in the heart of the wine country. As you can see, Nancy loves beautiful antique textiles, linens and buttons. But what is unique is that Nancy turns these beautiful textiles into items of use. Her bags are beautiful but it doesn't stop there. Nancy re-purposes her textiles into pillows, sachets and framed pictures. I am pretty excited to introduce you to my FAVORITE deli, Depalo & Sons owned by Scott and Andrea. My husband and I are frequent customers of this little Italian deli in our neighborhood. Where do I start.... Gary is the husband of a very dear friend of mine and has supported me through the many stores that I have owned. Gary also is an avid collector. One of the items that he collects are vintage aquariums from everywhere. I remember walking into his warehouse and was in awe.... They were everywhere! One morning, I was having coffee with Gary's wife, Nancy, and she was telling me how excited that Gary was to go to the show. Nancy then leaned over and said, "What Gary would love one day is to be a vendor at the show". I looked at her and said, "Would he part with his aquariums?" I like for you to welcome back Trinidad, Johan and Martin of Atelier de Campagne. I invited this handsome trio to my last Spring Show and of course, they wowed everyone. Trinidad and Johan travel across Europe to find the best finds in the look they both love. They also marry pieces together to create one of a kind pieces. Here is another store I would love for you to visit while you are in town for the show, Luna Rustica. This store is in downtown San Luis Obispo. It is packed full of old wooden doors, tables designed by Michael marrying old pieces of wood into modern designs to fit many decors. I think the best part that I love about this store is the fact that it is a family business. When you walk into Luna Rustica, you will be greeted either by Michael, Tammy or their darling daughter, Jessica. Definitely put this store on your journey through San Luis Obispo for that weekend.

Amy Hanna

I would like for you to meet Amy Hanna. I met Amy many years ago in Southern California. A friend of mine was telling me how amazing this woman jewelry was. So I started following her blog. Amy transforms forgotten antique treasures and recreates them into modern pieces with a vintage twist using rough stones, woods and tarnished metals. I would look through the pictures and then go to her Etsy Store and gaze, drool and dream of having one of her pieces. When I would finally make the decision to buy a piece, it would be SOLD. I thought Amy would be perfect for the show but the timing was never right. Well... it finally is! Amy will be at Remnants and I am finally going to be able to buy one of her pieces. Okay ladies... Here is another must store to put on your list to visit while you are here for the show. Tracey and Gini have created an absolutely visual treat in their store called Old World Charm. This darling store just grabs you from the moment you enter the front door. They stick to their philosophy of giving new life to vintage treasures. I think what also makes this store so special is that this Mother and Daughter team make everyone that walks through that door feel special and that you have just made a new friend. Linda has a very eclectic look with American antiques blended with whimsical items. Half of the fun going into Linda's booth is talking to her if you can get in. This is one classy woman! Isn't she beautiful! I'd like you to meet Donna of Donna's Antiques. Donna has been a part of Remnants since the beginning and has given me such unfailing support and advice. Her husband, Ray, is pretty special, too. Ray is the one that implements Donnas vision.She has Ray hanging things and moving items from one end to the other. Ray, you are the best! The result... a beautiful booth filled with texture, whimsy and the most interesting treasures you will ever see. Donna specializes in Primitives and Americana. Donna and Ray have been in the business for a long time and they are one of my biggest supporters and are always encouraging me. Thank you Donna and Ray! Windmill Farms

Since I have been giving this show, we are having more and more people that visit from out of the area. They are always asking me what I love to do on the Central Coast, where to shop and where to eat. I have been compiling a list of things to do and I am introducing them to you. These are all places that my family and I love to go to.

One of my favorites is Windmill Farms. You can see it right off the 101 Freeway. You cannot miss it!

It is a darling building with fresh vegetable, gifts and a petting zoo. Best time to is the Fall. Please stop there on your visit to the Central Coast.

I first met Marilyn a few years ago while she was shopping at the show. She was so friendly and kind and had an amazing eye for the best of the best of vintage. Marilyn is from Canada and has her degree in interior design and loves redoing her home on a regular basis. You can find Marilyn at the best flea markets as she looks for the perfect piece. Marilyn is on the team that makes the store A Beautiful Mess the amazing store that it is. Sorenson Farm Antiques

I like you to meet Judy of Sorenson Farm Antiques. Judy has been with me since the very beginning of Remnants of the Past. Judy with the help of her friend, Deanne and Judy's handy dandy husband, Lee, create the most amazing displays I've ever seen. They are known for their chandeliers and they are hung everywhere, bed frames and anything else that they can convince Lee to hang while he is perched on top a VERY tall ladder. Lee is such a good sport when us women start getting creative. Judy has a knack of finding and re-purposing her finds and all displayed in beautiful vignettes. I can hardly wait to see what they have up their sleeve for this Fall Show. I know I've said this before but you just have to tease Lee and tell him that you want the highest hung chandelier and watch his expression. :~) It is priceless.

Ruby Rose

As many of you know, I am a huge fan of the store, Ruby Rose, owned by my friend, Stephanie. Stephanie had this brilliant idea to put together a select group of stores together and call themselves the "After Party". After Party being if you haven't had enough junking at Remnants of the Past, they have plenty more for you. Stephanie started this event about two years ago and it has become a favorite thing to do after you have been to Remnants. Be sure to visit Stephanie at Remnants on Saturday and Sunday. You won't be able to miss her because she will have her adorable pink and white vintage trailer inside the show.

Mary of Glorie

I have been visiting Mary of Glorie's booth at my favorite flea market for about three years now. Each time that I go by to pick up something that I cannot live without, I try to convince her she needed to do the show. Timing was never right until this past April's show. Glorie was there! You couldn't miss her booth. Mary was right beside the entrance to the Barn and it was a visual delight to see. Not only are the displays and merchandise a visual treat to behold but you will LOVE Mary.

Lipstick Gypsy

I opened up my Vendor Map when I arrived at The Farm Chicks show and saw this name of a booth, Lipstick Gypsy... Who wouldn't want to check this out! I remember walking up to the booth and it was creative, funky, bright, whimsical and outrageous all at once. I walked up to Robin of Lipstick Gypsy and was immediately drawn by her fun personality, kindness and out of the box creativity. I have to have her at the show, I thought! I spoke to Robin several times over a month and finally, Robin agreed to come. I am so excited! Welcome Robin of Lipstick Gypsy!

I've known Shelley for many years. We would see each other at our children's school, school functions and at sporting events. After the kids grew up, we began to pursue our own dreams. One of Shelley's dreams was to write a book and not just any book but a book full of meaning. This book is REAL. It is a story of 65 people that are anouymous, first name only, and pictures just of their hands. Shelley uses these photos to reveal what we have in common and like fingerprints, reveals how each of us is unique. The book REAL allows you not only to forgive, what may have disappointed us, or has caused shame...instead to embrace that which does not pretend to be anything but REAL.

Shelley will be at Remnants of the Past this October to sign this amazing book.

Polly Janes

Did you read my last post on Jenny of Glitterfarm? Well, if you are wondering where all that creativity comes from it is from this woman, her Mom, Polly. The apple does not fall far from the tree! I've known Polly for years when she had a little shop in the Village of Arroyo Grande that was always one of my junkin' stops. I still remember walking into her shop and smelling the scents of lavender, bay and pine. She was either making a wonderful birdhouse, making wreaths or creating something out of something she found on one of her jaunts around town. Polly of Polly Janes has been a part of Remnants since my first show in October of 2007. I cannot imagine not having her delightful personality, her kindness and let us not forget her great stuff! And remember, Polly will have her natural bay leaf wreaths at the show.

She will take any scrap of fabric, paper or cashmere and turning it into a piece that you have to have for your home or for a keepsake. Urban Farmhouse

I met Michele and Lisa at a flea market. Another one of those booths that just stops you in your tracks. I started talking to them and I could just tell that they were kind and they had amazing style. I invited them around two years ago and they debuted at my April Show with much applause.

The women just flocked to their booth and by the end of the day, Michele and Lisa were grinning from ear to ear. They were a hit! Sooooo....

Le Creme

I am excited to introduce you to Kelly of Le Creme. I met Kelly through her husband during a real estate transaction. Meeting Kelly is like meeting your best friend. She is so warm and full of enthusiasm. When I found out that she designed jewelry, I wanted her to be a part of Remnants. Kelly has been with me since the very first show I gave in October of 2007. I am always excited for the October show because Kelly always brings amazing pieces for the Fall; just in time for me to start thinking of accessorizing my wardrobe.

Kelly has a darling shop in downtown San Luis Obispo that not only has her wonderful jewelry but she has brought in a line of clothing, too. My kind of shopping! Please welcome Kelly!

Natalie Klock

I would love for you to meet Natalie. I met Natalie at a local show and was not only taken with her booth but also with Natalie. Natalie has such a wonderful and kind spirit. I love her sense of family and her enthusiasm for what she loves. This is so important when choosing the vendors for the show. As soon as you see her booth, you will want to make sure it is one of the ones you visit first. She has a great eye and the treasures in her booth fly out. Victoria of Victoria Stoehr Designs

A fairly new vendor to the show is Victoria of Victoria Stoehr Designs. If you have never seen Victoria at one of the few shows that she participates in, then you are for a visual treat. Victoria has an incredible eye of display using textural items in unusual vignettes. I love seeing how her imagination because reality.

Victoria grew up in a small town in the Midwest where her family were avid antiquers. There she got her taste of going to flea markets and barn sales. Victoria started developing her style and decided to then move to the big city of Chicago to attend the Illinois Institute of Art. There she met her husband and became increasingly involved in "the business". They decided to move to California where Victoria was in her element! Flea Markets nearly every weekend! After awhile, Victoria started her own design company offering her services in home decor, design, home staging and of course, antiques.

I am thrilled to have Victoria a part of Remnants this Fall in our new location. Be ready to be in awe!

Over the Ocean

I would love to introduce you to Marina of Over the Ocean. I met Marina a couple of years ago at a flea market. I instantly made her booth one of my favorite stops when I would arrive at the market. When I am around wicker and galvanized, I am worthless. All I want to do is buy everything up. I always enjoyed talking to Marina and knew I had met a kindred spirit. Marina grew up in the Netherlands and spent most of her life going to garage sales and markets with her mother searching for that unfound treasure. After her Mom passed away, her aunt and uncle who were in the brocante business, encouraged her to start exporting from Europe to California. This allowed her to work for herself and be near her sisters in California. She named her business Over the Ocean in memory of her mother sending suitcases back and forth from Europe to the United States. Marina is on her sixth container from Europe and loves every minute of it. Marina likes to use a saying that people in the Netherlands use to describe herself, prettig gestrood, which means pleasantly crazy. I know that you will enjoy Marina and her finds as much as I do. Over the Ocean's booth is outside; so be sure to stop by and I know that you will not leave without some treasure.

Queen of Tarte

I happened to be on one of trails you happen upon when you are in blog world. Look at this blog and "Oh!" look at that blog and that is when I stumbled upon Cindy of Queen of Tarte. Cindy was giving a monthly show at her little barn in Oregon. The photos were pure eye candy. A little bohemian, a little French and just a whole lot of fun. I was hooked. Cindy has quite the eye but what really throws me into heaven are her displays. She is quite the eye for the unusual.

One weekend while shopping at a flea market in California, I heard the twitters between the dealers that Cindy of Queen of Tarte was seen shopping there. I was on a mission. I wanted her to be a vendor at Remnants of the Past. I looked up and down the aisles and there she was. I walked up to her and introduced myself and asked if she would consider Remnants. Cindy said she would think about it. That was about a year and half ago. Then, I went up to Farm Chicks and Cindy had an amazing booth up there and again I asked and she said she was interested. I came home from the show and thought, I just have to have her come. I asked her to be my friend on Facebook and we started chatting and she said yes she would love to come. I happy to introduce you to Cindy of Queen of Tarte.
